Best localization practices that are culture-specific?

    Hey Rachel! I'll share some things that I've learned from others that I have spoken to. This may help in your approach to localization!

    Starting somewhere and building the foundation:
    Begin from where you have started and secure your approach first. If you're doing localization the first time, you will learn a lot from your first go at it. Be sure to take note of what you learned and obstacles. This will create a foundation for a smoother launch and soon be adapted to other regions you are planning to enter. 
    Generally, going from English to another Latin/Germanic language is smoother, but localizing from English to an Asian language (ex: Japanese) is another ball-game as grammar and sentence structures are significantly different. I would recommend localizing to a single language in a specific language-grouping first so that the experience learned can make future localizing in the other languages more smoother and efficient.
    Ensure the name of your product can be pronounced in every market you're launching: 
    Straight-forward, right?  Actually it's much more than pronounciation, it's also the underlying meaning as well. A good example to be inspired from is Evernote.
    Maintain a translation glossary to ensure consistency and efficiency
    This is particularly useful especially as the amount of words and content increases and if you have multiple people translating. Getting everyone on the same page is absolutely key to success.
