Adding new phrases
There are currently two ways to add phrases to the platform.
- Manual input (not recommended)
- Uploading through file
Which one should you choose?
OneSky Customer Success team says OPTION 2: Uploading through file.
The manual input feature is intended to "test" the platform and see how phrases can be translated. Manually input phrases have no sequence indication - this means that the phrases can appear in random places in your project. All phrases that exist on the platform should exist on a file. This is to ensure a more seamless localization workflow, especially when you update your phrases (see below).
Updating phrases
There are currently two ways to update phrases on the platform. Lets say you have file "string.xml" with two strings "Apple" and "Banana", and you wish to add a third string "Orange".
Original:
String 1: Apple
String 2: Banana
Option 1
- Upload "string.xml" with ONLY String 3: Oranges
- NOT deprecate phrases that do not appear in string.xml
- Platform will contain Strings 1, 2, and 3
Option 2
- Upload "string.xml" with original + new string (Strings 1, 2, 3)
- Platform will contain Strings 1, 2, and 3
So which option should you go with? Our product team says Option 2.
Each file should be treated as the source of truth and contain the "hard copy" of all of the strings that are currently on the platform. This will reduce the complications with your localization workflow and platform usability.
